Cuisine
Boasting a number of Michelin star restaurants, Barcelona enjoys it's food. Beyond fine dining you have plenty of opportunities to enjoy amazing food whether in the form of tapas at bodegas and bars or fresh finds at mercados. A few local dishes worth a try include Pan tumaca (Pamtomaquet), fuet, and Crema Catalana. Cava, a Catalan sparkling wine, is a local staple that can be enjoyed any time of day whether you are just starting breakfast or enjoying a dinner or dessert. Other must try Spanish foods include paella, Patatas Bravas, Bombas, Croquetas, Tortilla De Patatas, and of course, Jamón Iberico.
The Mediterranean
There is so much to enjoy in the city but make sure to schedule time to enjoy golden beaches of the Mediterranean sea. There are many scenic escapes within a short drive but Barceloneta is an easy seaside escape from the hustle and bustle of the city.
Castells
Found at festivals in Catalonia, this is a 200 year old tradition of building human towers called castells (castles). Castellers, the people who build these human structures, can reach over 30ft or up to 10 people in height!
Catalunya (Catalonia)
Barcelona is the capital of the Catalonia region consisting of the Costa Brava and Pyrenees Mountains. One of the most noticeable differences compared to other parts of Spain is Catalan is the primary language in Barcelona, although nearly everyone will speak Spanish as well. Some locals view Catalunya as a separate Spain, a nation without a state, notable for its progressive culture.
